Chocolate Chip Scones
After making the French vanilla macarons, which was quite some work, I wanted to bake something that was almost no work. I began thinking about making muffins, but I wanted something more original. I have stumbled upon many scones recipes before, but I have never tried any of them. In fact, I had never even tasted a scone, before making these chocolate chips ones. I found a highly-rated scones recipe on AllRecipes.com. They suggest you use raisins, but I was in the mood for something sweeter so I used some chocolate chips. Scones are Scottish quickbread/cake that are commonly eaten with strawberry jam. I prefer to think of them as a combination between a biscuit and a slice of cake. Indeed, they are very yummy. I was thinking about rating them 4 out of 5, but my family members rated them 5 out of 5, so it only seems natural to me to rate these scones 4.5 out of 5!

Ingredients: makes about 8 large scones
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg
- ½ cup chocolate chips (if you don't want to use chocolate chips, I suggest you use something else, like raisins or berries, but don't omit this completely, I think they lack taste without something added)
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, blend the sour cream and baking soda, and set aside.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Cut in the butter. Stir the sour cream mixture and egg into the flour mixture until just moistened. Mix in the chocolate chips.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead briefly. Roll or pat dough into a 3/4 inch thick round. Cut into several (about 8) triangles, and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
5. Bake 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, until the edges are golden brown.
The whole process including the baking cost me around 35 minutes. How easy is that??
How they went into the oven. I love the triangle shapes.
Out of the oven, looking like real scones! :D

To enhance the chocolate flavor, I topped my scone with some Nutella, that instantly melted when I put it on the still-warm scone. Heavenly!
