Book Review: Martha Stewart - Baking Handbook

A reader asked if I could write a review of Martha Stewart's 'Baking Handbook'.

Well I’ve only baked one recipe from Martha Stewart’s 'Baking Handbook', I got the book just last week. But my first impressions, you know browsing through the book, are really positive and I think I did well by buying it.

The reviews on Amazon are really positive and Amazon reviewers can be a though crowd! I read that someone on Amazon commented “if I could only own one baking book, this would be it”, and I totally understand why, because it’s a very basic baking book. It has every basic recipe that you can imagine, plus some more extraordinary recipes, such as pastries.

Martha’s recipes are generally good and tasty. Most recipes don't call for any 'special' ingredients so you don't have to go to the grocery store for that one ingredient.

What I particularly like about this book is that nearly every recipe has a photo of the finished product, which helps a lot when you have no idea how it’s supposed to look like. Also, a lot of recipes features photos of the making-process (sort of like this blog).

The recipes are described very easily, and they make you feel like any beginning baker can do it.

The only con about it so far, is that some recipes make use of a lot of different tools, some I don’t have, for example ‘pie weights’ or a ‘bench scraper’.

@ Sweet Child: I understand that you have to think long about buying a book (I’m the same way), but I think you won’t regret it. I just can’t imagine anyone regretting this purchase.

Overall it looks like a delightful baking book and I think I will thoroughly enjoy it!

Hope this review helped a little! :) Any readers who own Martha Stewart’s ‘Baking Handbook’; feel free to post a little review in the comment-section.

Love,
Paris Pastry

Aaaaaw didn't thought that you'll review the book in one post..thank you so much! Its very useful and now I'll run to the bookstore and take it..I hope the book is still there because the last time I saw it, there was only one book left.
Thank you once again..
I can't imagine anyone regretting it either! Especially when you can usually get great deals on used books at Amazon.com! Wow I sound like an infomercial!
